Donna Vekic v Anastasija Sevastova Predictions & Preview

The world number 20 and 30th-ranked Anastasija Sevastova have clashed five times before this and the Latvian has won all five times. All these five matches were on hard court surface, and the last three of these matches came in 2018. Which should give Vekic some hope given her best came in 2019, a year that saw her make the US Open quarterfinals, and the fourth round at the French Open.

It saw her rise to her best ever ranking of 19th in the world and she finished the season ranked 20th.

Sevastova was once ranked 11th but an underwhelming last season has pulled her ranking back. Despite a title win in Jurmala last year, she had a 9-12 win-loss record on hard court surfaces and that should give Vekic further hope. Interestingly, both players are coming off first round exits at Brisbane last week and that could add some pressure on them given its proximity to the Australian Open.

Angelique Kerber v Qiang Wang Predictions & Preview

This will be the first time that Kerber and Wang will be facing off and it could well go down to the wire. On the one hand is a former Wimbledon champion, Kerber, who had a wretched 2019, winning no WTA title after having clinched 10 over the past three years. She also fell in the first round at the Brisbane International, losing to Samantha Stosur in straight sets, continuing on her losing streak.

At the other hand is Qiang Wang, who was ranked 12th at one stage last season thanks to her quarterfinal entry at the US Open but things deteriorated after that. She won just two of her next six matches that pushed her ranking down again.

However, while Kerber departed earlier last week, Wang was a part of the quarterfinal list at the Shenzhen Open where she finally lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova. And while Kerber starts off the bookmakers’ favourite at 4/6, this could well go the distance.

Tip: Games Handicap Wang +1.5: 10/11 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)

Danielle Collins v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Predictions & Preview

This will be the second encounter between these two players with Aliaksandra Sasnovich having won their first, which was played on clay. Collins made it to the quarterfinals at the Brisbane International where she lost to the eventual finalist Madison Keys while Sasnovich fell to Wang Qiang in the second round at Shenzhen.

Sasnovich then won two qualifying rounds to make it to the main draw here and while she is more than 40 places behind Collins, this match might not be as one-sided. Expecting a three-setter given the up and down nature of Collins’ form in recent times.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 8/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)

Yulia Putintseva v Ajla Tomljanovic Predictions & Preview

Putintseva has a 1-0 head to head record against the Aussie Ajla Tomljanovic, and is coming off a shock upset of Donna Vekic in Brisbane. She had to qualify for that tournament by winning three matches, and then won a couple in Adelaide to make the main draw.

Tomljanovic featured at the Abu Dhabi exhibition tournament where she went down to Maria Sharapova and then made the second round at Brisbane by beating fellow countrywoman Priscilla Hon. It took all of Karolina Pliskova’s experience to take her down in the second round. She will take Putintseva to the third set here and might even win this.

Tip: Tomljanovic to win: 5/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
