Rybakina Surprise Early Ouster at Roland-Garros
After having made it to the finals at five of the tournaments this season, Rybakina’s ouster in the second round of the French Open came as a surprise to most. She was 2/5 going into that match and after a slow start against Fiona Ferro, seemed to have made a comeback with a second set win.
That didn’t last too long though as she fell away in three sets, crashing to her second successive second round defeat at a Grand Slam.
While her lack of success at majors is a story for another day, it must be quickly added she does rather well at the other tournaments, especially looking at how she has risen to 19th in the world. Even after the resumption of tennis in August, Rybakina might not have looked as clinical as she did earlier, but made it to the final of the Strasbourg Open before going down to Elina Svitolina.
What will make Rybakina super-chuffed is her record indoors. This year she had made the final of the St. Petersburg Open before going down to Kiki Bertens but even in the previous seasons, her 49-18 record indoors across all circuits is anything but to be frowned upon.
She takes on a player fighting her own battle.

Former World Number 10 Kasatkina in Strife
Kasatkina needed to come through the qualifiers to make it to the main draw, defeating Bethanie Mattek-Sands in straight sets and Marie Bouzkova in three in the process. Her real test begins now given her obvious lack of results over the last 18 or so months, which has seen her drop from her career-best of world number 10 to being her current 75th.
This season, there have already been seven opening round defeats for Kasatkina having come on different surfaces scattered through the season. There was a semifinal at the Lyon Open, indoors, which could have built some momentum but it was the last tournament before the pandemic struck.
Something similar seemed to happen at the Italian Open where she managed to qualify for the main draw with three qualifying wins before taking the attack to the in-form Victoria Azarenka in the second round. And then she took a tumble and had to retire from the match.
The Russian returned back to make it to the second round at the French Open but if she is looking to return back to her glory days, Kasatkina would need more than just an odd win here or there.
Elena Rybakina v Daria Kasatkina Prediction and Tip
Rybakina is surprisingly 2/5 to win this, which are tempting odds for a player who has shown what she is capable of on this surface. A straight-set win is at 1/1 for the Kazakh.
Tip: Rybakina to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
