Kecmanovic Coming off a Mixed Start

After having won his maiden ATP title last season, Kecmanovic looked to have gone off the boil for a tad and he seems to have begun with modest success this season as well. A first round defeat at the Antalya Open to Stefano Travaglia, who was 8/5 to win the encounter, would have hurt, for instance.

The Serb then featured at the Great Ocean Road Open in the lead-up to the Australian Open and made it as far as the quarterfinal, winning a couple of rounds in the process. Jannik Sinner got the better of him in a tough two-setter.

At the Australian Open, he would have expected to do better than his second round defeat to Adrian Mannarino. Again, it was Kecmanovic, who had earlier had no worries dispatching Kamil Majchrzak in the first round, who had started off as a favourite but lasted all of three sets and won just seven games against Mannarino.

Kecmanovic now moves to his favourite surface; his record on clay was 5-2, other than being 5-1 in another exhibition competition on the same surface. Should be more at home here.

Cerúndolo’s Played Futures, Challengers & ATP This Season

We are only in the second month of an already-curtailed season and Argentina’s Cerúndolo has already featured in tournaments all over the place. He started the season with an appearance at a few of the Futures competitions in January, making it to the final at one.

Halfway into this month, Cerúndolo then participated in the Concepcion Challenger on clay again and lost in the first round.

And then the 335th-ranked Cerúndolo came through the qualifiers to make it to the main draw of this tournament but not too many would have expected him to then go past Thiago Seyboth Wild in his opener. Cerúndolo defeated the much-fancied Wild 7-5, 7-6 to enter round two and in turn give himself a chance to break into the top 300.

He has already improved by 24 places but can he now upset Kecmanovic’s good run on clay?

Kecmanovic v Cerúndolo Prediction and Tip

The Serb is a favourite here and while Cerúndolo has done well so far in the tournament, once Kecmanovic gets going, he should win this on a canter.

Tip: Kecmanovic to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
