This will be the first meeting between the 33-year-old Ramos-Vinolas and the 19-year-old qualifier.

Ramos-Vinolas Wins Fourth Three-Setter on the Trot

World No. 47 Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain inched closer to a third career title after he survived fourth consecutive three-setter to reach a Tour final for the ninth time in his career.

The fifth seed Ramos-Vinolas needed two hours and 49 minutes to dispatch Argentinian qualifier Facundo Bagnis in the second semifinal on Saturday.

Both players went toe-to-toe, winning 110 points each in the match. But it was the Spaniard who edged through with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 win, having broken his opponent five times in the match, while getting broken only thrice by the fellow lefty.

A clay court specialist, Ramos-Vinolas will be playing his eighth final on clay on Sunday. A quarterfinalist at the French Open in 2016, the 33-year-old Spaniard won the Swedish Open in 2016 and the Swiss Open in Gstaad in 2019.

Dumped out of the first round of the Australian Open by American Taylor Fritz, Ramos-Vinolas had to work hard for his first four wins at the Cordoba Open.

He rallied from a set down to beat Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Londero 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in a two-hour-and-25-minute first-round clash. And then had to repeat the process against another Argentine, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, rebounding from a first set setback to win 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 in two hours and 49 minutes.

His biggest win came in the quarterfinal, as he knocked out the top seed and World No. 9 Diego Schwartzman 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and 31 minutes.

On Sunday, he will be facing a fifth Argentinian in a row and will be bracing for another sapping affair.

Cerundolo’s Impressive Debut Continues

Argentina’s 19-year-old Juan Manuel Cerundolo’s fairy-tale run continued as he reached his maiden ATP Tour final with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win over compatriot Federico Coria in the first semifinal of the Cordoba Open on Saturday.

Ranked 335th in the world, Cerundolo became the first player to reach the final on his ATP main draw debut since Spain’s Santiago Ventura achieved the feat in Casablanca in 2004. He also became the youngest Argentine to reach an ATP final since Jose Acasuso, who played in the Buenos Aires final as an 18-year-old.

In what was a first career semifinal for both the players, Cerundolo had 22 break point opportunities, capitalizing on seven of those, while his opponent had 10 chances to break, of which he took five of them.

Winning 52% points in the match, Cerundolo struck 30 winners against his opponent’s 19 to dispatch the World No. 95 in two hours and 10 minutes.

It’s been a massive week for the 19-year-old, who picked his seventh consecutive win on Saturday, which included three qualifying round victories to enter the main draw.

Once in the main draw, the week just kept getting better for the lefty, who is 7-7 at the Challenger level.

Beginning with a straight sets win over Brazil’s Thiago Seyboth Wild in the first round, Cerundolo has had to deal with three consecutive three-setters, and the debutant has been equal to his task.

Fighting back from a set down in the Round of 16, Cerundolo ousted third seed Miomir Kecmanovic 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 6-2.

In the quarterfinal, he seized the early initiative against Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro, but the seventh seed responded quickly to force the decider, before the Argentine powered to a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win.

Ramos-Vinolas v Cerundolo Prediction and Tip

Both players will be weary, having spent a significant amount of time on court over the week, but both will be hungry for title success and hence ready to grind it out. Difficult to choose a winner but one can expect the two to go the distance on Sunday.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 11/8 (bet365)
