Kvitova Breaks into No Sweat

After having had an ordinary start to the season, Kvitova was expected to be a tad rusty coming into this competition in Doha but that clearly didn’t show in her performance in the first round of this tournament.

Taking on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, a tricky opponent given their past record, Kvitova demolished her 6-1, 6-3 to enter the quarterfinal. This was after a first round bye for Kvitova.

In a match lasting an hour and 15 minutes, Kvitova broke in the fourth game of the first set after having saved two break-points in the previous game. Another break-point saved in the next game, Kvitova broke again to run away with the set.

The second set saw Pavlyuchenkova take off like her opponent had in the first set, racing off to a 3-1 lead having finally broken Kvitova. However, that was the last time she would win a game as Kvitova made a solid comeback, breaking her three times in a row from there on to get herself out of the match without any trouble

Kontaveit Drills Through to the Quarters

As if to prove her shock win over Jennifer Brady in the first round of the tournament, was no flash in the pan, Kontaveit was at her clinical best against Angelique Kerber in the second round in Doha. The Estonian was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over the three-time Grand Slam winner.

Needing exactly one hour for her demolition job, Kontaveit broke her opponent four times of the five opportunities she got and herself faced just one break-point in the entire match which she saved.

Her six aces combined with winning 77% of the first serve points, and with Kerber unable to get too many on the board on the returns off Kontaveit’s serve ensured there would be no looking back for the world number 24.

And while Kvitova is the higher-ranked of the two players and has the kind of experience not too many women’s players do on tour, Kontaveit looks like she could give her a real fright.

Kvitova v Kontaveit Prediction and Tip

Things could get really tough here and we could also see a third set but backing Kontaveit to come through out of this and into the semifinal.

Tip: Kontaveit to win: 11/10 (bet365)
