Borna Coric v Malek Jaziri Head to Head

The pair have met once before on the senior tour in the first round in Dubai in 2015. Coric came from behind to win that match in three sets.

Coric Rediscovering Some Form in 2021

Coric is in with a chance to win his first career title since 2018, after reaching the semi-final in Rotterdam. And, with a tie against Marton Fucsovics, he is the favourite to at least make the final.

That would be a boost for him, and further proof that he is starting to get back to his best after several years of indifferent form.

He began 2021 reasonably, getting to the quarter-finals in Murray River before losing to Dan Evans, but he would have been hoping for better at the Australian Open than a second-round defeat to the American Mackenzie McDonald.

However, he has found some form in Rotterdam, beginning his campaign there with victory over the local wildcard Botic Van de Zandschulp, before disposing of the challenge of the world 27, Dusan Lajovic of Serbia in straight sets, for the loss of just five games.

Kei Nishikori gave him a tough battle in their quarter-final, but two tie-breaks in the end were enough to defeat the Japanese number one.

Jaziri, A Tunisian Wildcard

Before Ons Jabeur burst onto the scene, Jaziri was the best known and the most successful Tunisian tennis player. He reached the final in Istanbul in 2018, has been both a semi-finalist and quarter-finalist in Dubai, and has twice made the last four of other senior ATP events.

Ranked as high as 42 in the world just two years ago, his fall from grace has been swift since then, and he now finds himself down at 261.

The 37-year-old now divides his time between the Senior and Challenger tours, beginning his year in Antalya where he lost in the first round.

He did not travel to Australia, remaining in Europe to play the Challenger event in Biella, where again he lost early.

However, he did take part in the qualifying for the Singapore Open, reaching the second round before losing to the Australian world 3030, John Patrick Smith.

Coric v Jaziri Prediction and Tip

In terms of world rankings, this is something of a mismatch, but Jaziri might benefit from the fact that Coric will be tired after his exploits in Rotterdam. Notwithstanding that, Coric should have too much for the Tunisian veteran.

Tip: Coric to win in straight sets: 4/6 (bet365)
