Ostapenko had a difficult match with the Romanian Patricia Maria Tig, but will be encouraged by the way that she came through it.

The second became an attritional battle of long rallies. break points and missed opportunities on both sides of the net.

Tig was the first to buckle by dropping her serve but Ostapenko could not hold on and handed the advantage back next game. However, she then broke Tig once more to re-establish her lead.
