Yulia Putintseva v Ana Konjuh Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the qualifying rounds of the Prague Open of 2015. Konjuh had won that clay court encounter easily, dropping just three games in the contest.

It wasn’t the most straightforward of wins for Putintseva but she will take her first round victory over Kaja Juvan after having come into the competition on the back of three successive defeats.
Putintseva shrugged off the loss of the first set to Juvan to register a three-set win in two hours and 20 minutes, her first victory in over 40 days.
In a game strewn with difficulties in holding serves, the first set saw 19 break point opportunities and seven breaks of serve in the process. It was Juvan who got the decisive break in the 10th game of the set to complete the win.
Putintseva’s better serving helped her no ends, as did the fact she continued to break her opponent and this time ran away to a 5-0 lead. While Juvan showed a brief resurrection, Putintseva shut her opponent down to level the proceedings.
And with the momentum having swung her way, Putintseva latched on to it nicely, breaking Juvan three more times in the final set to win it 6-1.

Konjuh Wins Another Three-Setter
It’s been a couple of seasons of comebacks for Konjuh as she inches back her way into the top 100 for starters and then goes further from there. Because of the fall in her rankings, Konjuh has had to make the main draws of events via the qualifying route like she had to in this competition.
And back to back three-set wins in the qualifiers were followed by another first round victory for Konjuh in a match that went into a third set.
Konjuh needed an hour and 51 minutes to carve out a 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 win over Alison van Uytvanck and seal her place in round two where she will take on Putintseva. Interestingly both players faced 10 break-points in the match and lost their serves six times, but it was the decisive one in the final 11th game of the final set that took the Croat home.
Can she now make it to the quarterfinals after having done that in Istanbul last month?
Putintseva v Konjuh Prediction and Tip
Putintseva is a favourite while Konjuh’s fighting spirit could see the match get pushed into a third set – a fourth in a row for the Croat. Backing her to win a set.
