Yulia Putintseva v Magda Linette Head to Head
These two have faced off four times before this with the 48th-ranked Linette having won three times out of those four. Putintseva, ranked 43rd at the moment, won their first round win at the 2018 Wimbledon, 10-8 in the final set, in what was their last meeting.
Linette leads 1-0 on clay.

Linette Making it Count?
In a season which was already curtailed for Linette after she began her campaign only in March, the Pole entered this competition on the back of five successive defeats.
Which is why, back to back wins against Nao Hibino in the first round and Alize Cornet in the second would have provided a huge relief for Linette.
While the opening round victory was a straightforward one, it took Linette bit of a scrap to scoop up a quarterfinal berth. Part of it was thanks to Cornet’s retirement from the match after falling 3-0 behind but it was in the first set Linette’s fighting spirit shone through.
Down an early break, Linette was facing a 3-5 deficit in the first set when she broke back, only to lose her serve again. Cornet served for the first set at 6-5 but Linette came back to level it at 6-6 and then rattle off five points in a row to claim the set 7-2 from 2-2.
Linette then broke Cornet two times in the second set, and in turn her spirit too to force an early retirement from the match.
Can the Polish player now make it three wins in a row for the first time since her Hua Hin title in February 2020?

Putintseva Also Benefits from Teichmann Retirement
After having made things difficult for herself in the first round, Putintseva managed to get an easy one as her opponent Jil Teichmann retired from their encounter early in the first set.
Putintseva was up 2-0 after 17 minutes of play when Teichmann had to withdraw from her match to award her opponent a place in the quarterfinal.
This was the second time season Putintseva has reached the quarterfinal of an event and on both occasions it has been thanks to an opponent retirement, following Garbine Muguruza’s withdrawal at Charleston.
Remove these two fortunate results, and Putintseva is a mere 3-4 on clay so far this season. Can she take advantage of her luck?
Putintseva v Linette Prediction and Tip
While Putintseva’s form is nothing to write home about, Linette herself hasn’t played and won too much this year. Expect a three-set encounter here.
