Federico Coria v Pablo Cuevas Head to Head

While these two players have never faced off at the highest level, they have met twice on the Challenger circuit and both those matches on clay were won by Cuevas.

Coria Struggles Past Topo

Ranked outside the top 1500, Marko Topo wasn’t quite expected to deliver any kind of a showing in his first round match but Coria still needed three sets to get the Serb. And that has been Coria’s issue in recent times, his form has been underwhelming.

In fact, since making it to the semifinal of the Cordoba Open in February, Coria has struggled to get going going and won just two main draw matches across eight tournaments before this. At two of those competitions, he failed to even make it to the main draw, forcing him to play a couple of Challengers in the lead-up to this competition in Belgrade.

And his results on the Challenger circuit were no better either.

At Zagreb, Coria lost in the second round and followed it up with another defeat in Oeiras at the same stage.

And now with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 win, it has shown once again Coria has a while to go before he can regain his form.

Cuevas Continues from Geneva Exploits

Cuevas hasn’t played a lot of tennis this season but has delivered a couple of sparkling performances.

The first came in his opening tournament of the season at the Great Ocean Road where he had reached the third round, following which he made a second round appearance at the Australian Open.

And then, more recently, Cuevas also reached the semifinal at the Geneva Open as a qualifier, defeating Reilly Opelka and Grigor Dimitrov on his way there.

Here in the first round, he continued to show that sparkle with a straight-set hammering of Miomir Kecmanovic, winning 6-3, 6-2 to march into round two. And while he now takes on a player ranked just inside the top 100 like him, the level of confidence for Cuevas will be slightly higher.

Coria v Cuevas Prediction and Tip

Cuevas has all the ammunition and form to take down Coria like he has done in the past too. Expect a straight-set win for the Uruguayan.
