Sorana Cirstea v Shuai Zhang Head to Head
The pair have met once before, in an exhibition match in 2018, but the format of that competition on a hard court meant that only one set was played, so that is not a reliable guide to comparative form.

Cirstea, Conqueror of Venus Williams
Cirstea, having once been ranked as high as 21 in the world and a French Open quarter-finalist, won her second career title after a gap of nearly 13 years in April, defeating Elise Mertens in the final of the Istanbul Open.
And she showed some of that confidence in her first round victory over the American veteran, Venus Williams.
The Romanian began in dominant mood, breaking Williams in her opening service game. She then saved a break point against her own serve before breaking the American again, and then a third time to claim the set.
The former champion, though, showed all her fighting qualities to hit back at the start of the second set to go a break up, and she consolidated that with a further break to level the match.
However, with the match going into a third set, the American began to tire. Cirstea broke her and, this time, was comfortable on her own serve. One more break ensued and Cirstea was able then to serve out without any further bother.

Zhang Snaps Long Losing Sequence
Since reaching the fourth round of the French Open last year, Zhang’s record read, played seven and lost seven. But that long losing run is finally at an end after she beat the Japanese player Misaki Doi, the world 79, on Monday.
Doi dropped her opening service game but she soon levelled up and broke Zhang to move ahead, However, Zhang was able to break back before the pair swapped breaks once more.
That left Doi with the task of serving to stay in the set, but she could not manage it and the Chinese woman moved ahead.
It looked like she had immediately surrendered her advantage when she was broken at the start of the second set, but she was able to break back and yet again the pair swapped breaks.
And, just as in the first set, Doi was forced to serve to stary in the match, and yet again, was not up to the task.
It was hardly the most convincing of wins, but, after such a long time without a victory, Zhang would have been grateful for small mercies.
