Landmark Win for Djokovic
Eighteen time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic reached another milestone in tennis as the top seed defeated Germany’s Mat Moraing in the Round of 16 of the Belgrade Open on Tuesday.
The 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win against the 253rd-ranked lefty was Djokovic’s 951st career win, thus tying him with Guilermo Villas at No. 5 in the list of players with most wins in the Open era. Jimmy Connors leads the pack with 1,274 wins, followed by Roger Federer (1,243) at second, Ivan Lendl (1,068) at three and Rafael Nadal (1,022) at four.
The World No. 1, who received a first round bye, dominated the first set against the 28-year-old German, but was given a tough fight in the second set, as Moraing forcing the decider by breaking Djokovic in the 12th game of the set. The reigning Australian Open champion, however, regained control to win the one-hour-and-41-minute contest 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Broken twice in the match, Djokovic saved three break points, while breaking his opponent’s serve four times from 10 opportunities to register his first win since turning 34.
A winer of 82 career titles, Djokovic improved to 17-3 this year. He is still looking to add to his lone title won at the Australian Open earlier this year. The closest he came was at the Rome Masters, where he lost the final against arch-rival Rafael Nadal.
He also reached the semifinals in Belgrade at the Serbia Open last month, but his march was halted by Aslan Karatsev. The top seed will be hoping not to disappoint his home fans this time around and head to French Open with another title in the bag.

Coria Knocks Out Cuevas
Facing Djokovic in the quarterfinals will be Argentina’s Federico Coria, who knocked out Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
Coria, who needed three sets to defeat 1512th ranked Marko Topo in the first round, put up a much-improved performance in the second round, beating the World No. 91, 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 15 minutes.
Ranked 96th in the world, Coria had a disciplined performance winning 75% service points and 52% return points in the match. He converted 5 of 11 break points but failed to save the only one that he faced in the entire match.
On Sunday, Coria had to fightback after losing the first set to 17-year-old Topo. He eventually defeated the Serb 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Younger brother of Guillermo Coria, Federico is yet to reach an ATP final. Monday’s win improved him to 8-9 this year, which saw him reach the final four in Cordoba. He has had a disappointing run ever since losing that semifinal to Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
Novak Djokovic v Federico Coria Prediction and Tip
Coria seems to be getting his form back, but stands little chance on Thursday. Djokovic will be the outright favourite to win the contest in straight sets and advance.
