Korda Sends out Sonego

In just an hour and 31 minutes, Korda overcame Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego to wrap up his second successive win for the first time on clay this season.

Korda was 6-1, 7-5 winner as he broke his opponent three times in the match, while saving each of the six break-points he faced.

The American, who had earlier featured in four clay court competitions this season with just one main draw win in those, made it his second win in a row for the first time since the Miami Masters.

He broke Sonego early and then doubled his advantage to take a 4-0 lead before wrapping it up 6-1. And while serving became cagier and harder to get past as the match progressed, Korda finally found a way to do that in the 11th game with a break off his second chance.

Korda soon served it out to make it to the quarterfinal where he should not have too many difficulties again.

Nishioka Stuns Musetti in Round Two

Not too many would have given Nishioka too much of a chance in his second round encounter against Lorenzo Musetti. Which is why when he came through in straight sets against Musetti, jt would have been a huge shock for the Japanese player.

Nishioka won 6-3, 6-2 in a match didn’t last much longer than 80 minutes.

Two breaks of serves apiece in the first set took us to 3-3 in the first set, before Nishioka surprised hos opponent by getting a second successive break of serve.

And the second set turned out to be even easier for the world number 60, who broke the much-fancied Musetti in the second round.

Earlier this season, Nishioka had made it to the quarterfinals at both Singapore and Lyon – in a tournament he last played before coming here. Now twice in as mnay appearances, Nishioka has made the last eight stage.
