Marco Cecchinato v Norbert Gombos Head to Head

Cecchinato Marks Personal Landmark
After 12 previous attempts, Cecchinato has now reached his first quarter-final of 2021. And, whilst the field may not be the strongest in Parma, with many of the world’s top players busy on the practice courts ahead of the French Open, he will feel that a psychological hurdle has been overcome.
Not that it all been plain sailing. He played compatriot and qualifier Raul Brancaccio in the first round, and although Cecchinato breezed through the first set, the world 36 put up more of a fight in the second and it needed a tie-break for the world 104 to [progress.
That earned him a second round tie with Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia, the world 54, and the Italian started well, winning the first three games. Bedene though was able to respond and the pair were soon back on serve,
However, serving to stay in the set, Bedene gave Cecchinato one opportunity to break, which he took to take the set.
The Bedene serve came under more pressure at the start of the second set, and, although he saved three break points in his opening service game, he was not so fortunate next time round, and the Italian seized control. Cecchinato did not allow any break back opportunities from that pin on and underlined his superiority with a further break to close out the match.

Gombos Makes Second Clay Court Quarter-Final of the Season
For the Slovakian Gombos, this is his second quarter-final of the AT European clay court season, and he has followed the same route to the last eight as he did the other time he got that far at the Andalucía Open in Marbella – come through two rounds of qualifying first, just to make the main draw.
He has had to battle to get here though, surviving two tight three set matches, beginning with the highly rate Finn Emile Ruusuvouri.
That earned her a second round tie on Wednesday with the man who ended his run in Marcelle, Albert Ramos-V#inoloas, and this time Gombos was able to exact revenge for that loss.
Gombos was the first tom drop his swerve in the opening set, but he hit back with two successive breaks to claim the first set.
The second set saw two successive breaks of serve from either man but when they could not be separated, it went to a tie-break, which the Spaniard claimed.
The Gombos serve came under heavy pressure at the start of the deciding set, and he had to save five break points, However, he managed to hold off the Spaniard and when he was given the chance to break next game, he converted his third opportunity.
He then closed out the match with a further break.
