Marie Bouzkova v Su-wei Hsieh Head to Head

They have faced off just once before this and that match came at the 2017 Hua Hin Open round of 16. Hsieh had won that in straight sets.

Bouzkova on a Five-Match Losing Streak

It’s been a bizarre season for Bouzkova with a sharp contrast between her performances on hard court and clay.

A third round appearance at the Yarra Valley Classic was followed by a finals appearance at the Phillip Island Trophy with wins over Jil Teichmann and Bianca Andreescu in that competition. Later she also made it to the semifinal at the Guadalajara Open as well, signalling a strong start to her season.

A switch to clay, however, turned disastrous for the Czech.

She won just one match – the first round in Charleston – and then fell apart after that. A second round defeat there and three opening round losses in the next three clay competitions meant the switch to grass couldn’t have come sooner for her.

Unfortunately for Bouzkova, she hasn’t made the best of starts on grass either, losing her opener at the Nottingham Open last week. A 6-4, 6-3 defeat to Katie Boulter who is currently outside the top 250 would have pushed her back further.

Can she now break her five-match losing streak?

Australian Open Quarterfinalist Hsieh Falls on Clay

In some ways, Hsieh and Bouzkova have had similar starts to the season. Hsieh also kick-started her season rather well at the Australian Open where she achieved a career-best showing of a quarterfinal but since then her results have taken a beating.

Qualifying for the Madrid Open, Hsieh lost her opener there, before falling in the qualifying rounds in Rome and then losing first round matches in Parma and Roland-Garros.

Where she would take some confidence from is her performance on grass which has seen her reach the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2018 and then again third round at that same tournament in 2019.

Up against a ridiculously off-colour opponent should also help Hsieh and given her own brilliant set of results on grass, albeit two years ago, make her a favourite here.

Bouzkova v Hsieh Prediction and Tip
