This will be a first meeting between the 24-year-old Ostapenko and the 26-year-old Martincova.

Ostapenko Off to a Good Start on Grass
World No. 43 Jelena Ostapenko began her Birmingham Open campaign with an easy win against America’s Lauren Davis.
The 2017 French Open champion needed just an hour and 14 minutes to beat the World No. 89, 6-4, 6-1. Ostapenko converted five and saved five break points in the contest, while her opponent saved four and converted two.
Overall the Latvian won 79% points on first serve and 42% on second serve to remain unbeaten in the first rounds in Birmingham, where she reached the quarterfinals in 2016 and 2019.
Tuesday’s win improved Ostapenko to 14-10 this year and 22-12 overall on grass. She made it to the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2018, a year after losing in the quarterfinals to Venus Williams.
In 2018, it was the eventual champion Angelique Kerber who ended her run.
A winner of three career titles from eight finals, Ostapenko has struggled for consistency over the last two years. She delivered her best result this year at the Italian Open, reaching the quarterfinals before falling to Karolina Pliskova.

Martincova Eyes a Second Consecutive Last-Eight Spot
On Thursday, Ostapenko will face the Czech Republic’s Tereza Martincova, who continued her strong grass season with a straight sets win over Sam Stosur in the first round on Monday.
The World No. 90, who came through the qualifiers, had reached the quarterfinals in Nottingham last week. Martincova defeated America’s Caroline Dolehide and Spain’s Georgina Garcia Perez in the first two rounds but fell to eventual finalist Nina Stojanovic in the last eight in Nottingham.
In Birmingham, Martincova got a walkover against Slovenia’s Dalila Jakupovic, who retired while trailing 2-4 in the first qualifying round, and then defeated Garcia Perez once again to make it to the main draw.
Against Stosur in the first round, Martincova converted all three of her break points and saved three of four to win the 73-minute contest 6-3, 6-4.
Martincova’s most significant result this year was a first third-round appearance at WTA 1000 event, as she reached the Round of 16 in Dubai by beating Kristyna Pliskova and Kiki Bertens before falling to Cori Gauff. The Czech also won her first match at a major, when she defeated Ivana Jorovic at the French Open, but lost to Jessica Pegula in the second round.
A winner of four ITF titles, Martincova also reached the second round in Miami.
Ostapenko v Martincova Prediction and Tip
This is the third time that Ostapenko is playing in Birmingham and she reached the quarterfinals on both the previous occasions, however she is yet to reach the final four.
Can she reach the quarterfinals again? She has started off brightly with an easy win over Nottingham semifinalist Davis and has more experience than Martincova. Expect her to advance without much fuss.
