Daria Kasatkina v Ons Jabeur Head to Head

The two ladies have met twice on the tour – Kasatkina has won both those encounters. They last met in the 2018 WTA Kremlin Cup final where the Russian won in three sets.

Kasatkina in her Third Singles Final of the Season

24-year-old Daria Kasatkina has made it to her third singles final in 2021 as she now looks to win her first grass tournament.

So far in Berlin, the number four seed has been quite impressive. Starting with a three-set win over Polona Hercog, she moved on to beat Marta Kostyuk in the second round and then, Tereza Martincova in the third round.

Throughout her performance, Kasatkina never really looked in trouble and was in control of her matches for most of the tournament. In the semis, she dispatched the American Coco Vandeweghe with 6-2, 6-4.

The young Russian started her season on a superb note – she won the Phillip Island Trophy and the St. Petersburg Trophy. In both these tournaments, Kasatkina punched above her weight by moving past some big names like Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Petra Martic, Danielle Collins, and Svetlana Kuznetsova.

On clay, however, she was not half as impressive as the best she could pull was a third-round appearance in the French Open. That said, she did beat the Swiss No. 1 Belinda Bencic en route in Paris.

Once a former top 10 player, Kasatkina’s form had dropped significantly on the tour over the last couple of seasons. She fell way down in the rankings to No. 70 and it wasn’t until her resurgence in 2021 that she started moving up again.

Jabeur Having a Brilliant Time in Birmingham

The last week here in the Birmingham Classic is undoubtedly the highlight of Jabeur’s 2021 season. She has made it to the singles and doubles finals (partnered with Ellen Perez) as the Tunisian now looks to conquer both the trophies on Sunday.

Seeded number two for the tournament, Ons Jabeur has had a pretty flawless run so far. Except for her second-round bout against Leylah Fernandez that went to three sets (Jabeur won that match in the final-set tiebreak), the Tunisian never dropped a set on the way to the final.

In the quarterfinal, she beat Anastasia Potapova while in the semis, she beat Heather Watson 6-3, 6-3.

With a win-loss tally of 27-10 as of Saturday, the 26-year-old Jabeur has been among the most consistent players on the tour. Earlier in the season, she reached the final in the Charleston Open too where she lost to Astra Sharma. In addition to that, Jabeur also reached the semifinal in Charleston and the fourth round in the Miami Open and French Open.

Kasatkina v Jabeur Prediction and Tip

This repeat of the 2018 Kremlin Cup final can very well go either way. After all, both players have been in superb form heading into this tournament.

Kasatkina will start as the favourite, however, on account of her superior winning experience and overall pedigree on the WTA Tour.
