This is the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour.

Altmaier Seeking a Turnaround

World No. 87 Daniel Altmaier had an uneventful spell in Australia as he now looks to deliver a string of better results in the coming weeks.

In the three tournaments he has featured in so far, the German has lost in the first round. In Adelaide 1, he fell to Thiago Monteiro while in Sydney, he was beaten by Fabio Fognini. It is worth noting that over there, Altmaier started as a qualifier but lost in the final round. However, he got the ticket to the main draw by the virtue of the lucky loser rule.

In the Australian Open, it was Altmaier’s compatriot Alexander Zverev who stopped him in his tracks in straight sets.

The 23-year-old spent the better part of the last season on the Challenger circuit. He did enjoy some success there, winning three titles and settling for the runner-up trophy in another. In addition to this, Altmaier also reached the semifinal in ATP Umag and Kitzbuhel. On the back of these results, he moved up some 50 places in the ranking to crack the top 90.

Gunneswaran, Coming off a Bleak Run

Prajnesh Gunneswaran hasn’t had the best of the starts to the 2022 season. Two tournaments in, the 32-year-old Indian is yet to deliver a handsome performance.

In the Australian Open, he fell in the second qualifying round to MaximilianMarterer in straight sets. In the following week, Gunneswaran featured in a Challenger event in Italy where he was beaten by Quentin Halys in the opener.

Like Altmaier, Gunneswaran also spent the better part of his previous season on the Challenger circuit but his exploits weren’t half as impressive as his opponent’s. His best results include reaching the semifinal in Nur-Sultan 1 and 2; in every other event, he succumbed in the early rounds.

Altmaier v Gunneswaran Prediction and Tip

One player is in the top 100, the other is ranked #220. This one should end in an easy win for Altmaier, given his momentum and overall form.
