Ruud Starts with a Bye
Casper Ruud, seeded number one for the Argentina Open, started with a bye into the second round.
The World No. 8 has had a pretty bleak season so far – not because of the form but mainly due to an ankle injury. He featured only in the ATP Cup where he beat Dusan Lajovic and Cristian Garin. The Norwegian didn’t feature in the Australian Open or any of the preceding tune-up events, making Buenos Aires his first professional appearance in over a month.
It is yet to be seen if he has fully recovered from the ailment and the match against Baena should serve as a good practice run.
Last season, Ruud won five ATP titles (all in the 250 tier), four of which were on the clay courts. He was also a semifinalist in the Monte Carlo Masters, Madrid Masters, and the ATP Finals. All in all, the 23-year-old ended the season with a tally of 57-17 and a place in the top 10.

Baena Overcomes Jarry
Roberto Carballes Baena started his campaign in the Argentinean capital with a 7-6(2), 6-2 win over the Chilean qualifier Nicolas Jarry. The current World No. 78 won 77% of the points behind the first serve and saved an impressive five out of six breakpoints.
The 28-year-old Spaniard has had a pretty rough season so far – his tally stands at 1-4. Most recently, he played in Cordoba where he lost in the second round to Lorenzo Sonego.
As for his overall form, Baena reached three Challenger finals, going the distance in only one of them. As for his overall record in Buenos Aires, he has never made it past the quarters and interestingly, has also lost to Ruud right here in 2020.
Ruud v Baena Prediction and Tip
Ruud will start as the favourite, at least on paper, but not knowing the extent of his recovery or current form, it is hard to say if he will win this one in straight sets. However, his exceptional track record on clay courts and his title feat here in 2020 should serve him well.
Tip: Ruud to win: 4/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
