Laaksonen Flying Swiss Flag
With Roger Federer injured and Stan Wawrinka just beginning his latest comeback, Laaksonen is left flying the flag for Swiss male tennis at the moment.
Primarily known on the Challenger tour, where he has won six Challenger titles, including one on clay, last year he had arguably the biggest win of his career, when he beat Roberto Batuista-Agut at the French Open, going on to reach the third round, a stage he also reached at Flushing Meadows.
He has struggled so far to replicate that form in 2022, and has failed to get beyond the second round of any event so far.
This will be his third clay court match of the year so far, and the first two both ended in defeat, beaten by Richard Gasquet in Marrakesh and failing to qualify in Monte Carlo. The man who beat him there – Lehecka.

Lehecka Sets Up Laaksonen Rematch
Lehecka has spent the majority of his career to date on the Challenger tour but, in 2022, he has begun to make headway on the main tour, reaching the Australian Open for the first time and then, in Rotterdam, becoming the youngest semi-finalist there for 27 years.
There have been a few bumps in the road since then, although he did reach the last eight of a Challenger event in Marbella on clay.
After beating Laaksonen he did make his main draw debut in Monte Carlo, but was beaten in the opening round by the recent Marrakesh winner, David Goffin of Belgium.
He was made to qualify in Belgrade, but set up the rematch with Laaksonen by defeating Nino Serdarusic of Croatia and Flavio Cobolli of Italy, both in straight sets.
