Chile Winner Martinez

Martinez, who was a beaten finalist in Kitzbuhel last year, finally won his maiden ATP title in February, beating the Argentine Sebastian Baez in Santiago to win the Chile Open.

He went on to reach the third round in Miami, but results since then have been largely disappointing for the Spaniard, and he embarked on a run of sixth successive first round exists before finally snapping that sequence in Eastbourne.

After another first round defeat at Wimbledon, he turned to the Challenger tour in Germany to try and find some form on clay.

However, he was beaten by the world number 235, Zhizhen Zhang, in straight sets, in their second round match.

Taberner Looking for Main Tour Form

Taberner made his name playing in clay court events on the junior tours.

He won his 5th Challenger title in February in March.

That form has yet to translate to the senior tour, and he has never beaten a top ten player in six attempts.

On the main tour he has yet to get beyond the second round of any event in 2022, and lost both his matches on grass this year, including a first round defeat at Wimbledon to the American Reilly Opelka.

Since then he entered a clay court Challenger tournament in the Netherlands, but was beaten by a local player in the second round.

Martinez v Taberner Prediction and Tip

Although Martinez has struggled to replicate the form that brought him success in Chile, he should still be too strong for a man who has yet to translate his Challenger performances to the main tour.
