Nicolas Jarry is back to playing regular tennis after being banned from the sport for a while. The Chilean player was once a very strong clay player reaching the top 50 and winning an ATP trophy as well.
His game is highly dependent on his serve because it allows him to take initiative early in the match. Jarry is a very interesting player because his matches are always quite competitive because he’s hard to break and generally struggles to break his opponent.
No match showed that better than his round one clash against Thiago Monteiro which was lasted over 3 hours with three tiebreakers. The conditions in Gstaad favour him well and he can have a major showing here. He already won three matches here and two were qualifying ones.
Jarry is close to coming back into the top 100 because he’s grinding to get there. He’s already up to 41 matches this year with 28 wins and 13 losses. He has a chance to reach a rare quarterfinal here.

Hanfmann’s Strong Start
Yannick Hanfmann has not played much tennis year with only a 17-15 score overall but he made a really strong start in the main draw of Gstaad. The German player had to play the qualifiers but he was able to win two matches and get into the main draw.
It was not a lucky draw as he got Cristian Garin in round one but he was actually able to win the match. And he won it rather comfortably which was surprising considering the recent surge by Garin. The crucial thing in the matchup was the serve of Hanfmann which worked wonders.
Garin had a lot of issues returning the serve and he was unable to exert much pressure on his opponent. That will be the key against Jarry as well because both of them have strong servers. Essentially the matchup might just come down to who serves better which is not unusual for Gstaad.
Jarry v Hanfmann Prediction and Tip
To me, this matchup looks like a very competitive one. The level is similar, they have similar playstyles and I think we will see some tiebreaks here.
I could easily see both winning them but I think Jarry looked a bit more stable so I’ll back him to win this.
