Ymer Returns to Winston-Salem

Mikael Ymer played a fabulous Winston-Salem event last year reaching the final where he lost to Ilya Ivashka. That run to the final included some impressive wins over the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe with the Swede getting a wild card to return.

It’s been a tough year for Ymer who struggled a lot on clay this year which is a problem. Having grown up on clay, he always played well on this surface but a 3-8 record was really poor. His confidence suffered and his rankings but getting to hard courts has been decently solid for him.

A couple of nice ins and a semi-final in Washington should have him feeling good about his return to Winston-Salem. A nice introductory match waits for him and if he gets the win in that he might be in for another deep run.

Federico Coria is anything but a hard court expert so Ymer is favoured in this one.

Coria Takes on Hard Court Challenge

The last time Federico Coria played on a hard court was in Miami in March and he only played four matches in total. If he can, he’ll avoid these courts or any other courts that are not clay. The Argentine is a red dirt specialist and he never tried to hide it.

At age 30, Coria only played about 30 matches on hard courts and he has a 9-22 record. His game doesn’t suit the courts at all and his serve is rather weak.

You can attack it early in the rallies and it just creates a whole set of problems that are very hard to overcome. Coria’s form has been poor in the last events he played before getting there. A couple of wins but mostly losses on clay. It’s not looking promising at all.

Ymer v Coria Prediction and Tip

Anything but a win from Ymer here would be a huge surprise. He might not be in the best rhythm right now. He has the same number of wins on hard courts this year as Coria has in his entire career. Take the Swede.

Tip: Ymer to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
