Pedro Martinez v Steve Johnson Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2020 Cincinnati Masters qualifiers and Martinez had shocked Johnson in that one in three sets.

Since making it to the quarterfinal at the Gstaad Open, Martinez has not had a great run on the tour.
The Spaniard, who loves his time in clay court competitions, has lost three matches on the run including the first round at the Canadian Open and the opening qualifier in Cincinnati.
In fact that last defeat to Chun Hsin Tseng, would specially hurt after he had gone into the match as a 1/2 favourite to clinch it.
What Martinez will hope to achieve here is the kind of run he had in Miami where he had reached the third round. Unfortunately for him, such results in hard court competitions have been few and far between.

Johnson Eases Past Nava
It was a routine first round victory for Johnson who eased past Emilio Nava in straight sets to establish his spot in round two. Johnson was on court for a tick over an hour as he ran past Nava 6-3, 6-2.
Having failed to qualify for the Cincinnati Masters, Johnson slammed eight aces and broke his opponent three times in the encounter. In return, there were a couple of break-points against him too but he managed to save them both easily.
Johnson had earlier made it to the quarterfinal of the Los Cabos Open as well, but the once-21st-ranked American will need to do a lot more than what he has so far to get things going here.
