Brooksby then took control of the match in the final set, bageling his opponent and reaching the second round with a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-0 win in two hours and 20 minutes.

Kwon Overcomes Compatriot in Three

World No. 121 Soonwoo Kwon, South Korea’s highest-ranked player in the ATP rankings, moved into the second round with a tough three set win over compatriot and qualifier Yunseong Chung.

Kwon, who is 20-27 from all matches this year, won the first set in the tiebreak, but conceded the second, also in the tiebreak. Neither player had broken in the first set, but both broke once each in the second.

Kwon raised his level in the final set, breaking Ching twice and taking the match 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (3-7), 6-1.

The 24-year-old Kwon has not won consecutive main draw matches at any level this year. It will be interesting to see if he can break that trend in Seoul.
