Anhelina Kalinina v Eugenie Bouchard Head to Head
No previous matches have been played between these two at the highest level but they did face off on the ITF circuit in 2017. Bouchard had won that clay court competition.

Kalinina Returns after US Open Withdrawal
Kalinina had hit a career-best ranking of 34th in the world in June-end but since then things have cooled off for her because of a combination of performances and illness.
Since her quarterfinal appearance at the Eastbourne International, Kalinina had won just two of her next eight main draw matches coming into the second round of the US Open. And while she would have found it difficult against Petra Kvitova given her form anyway, Kalinina was forced to withdraw from the match because of an illness.
The Ukrainian player hasn’t featured in a match since then and returns to the circuit after a near 40-day long break because of that.

Bouchard Hoping to Get Back to Near-Best
At her peak, Bouchard was a Wimbledon finalist and a world number five. Things have obviously gone horribly south for the Canadian and she now finds herself outside the top 500 of the rankings.
Wildcards into qualifying and main draw of tournaments is how she has managed to get to even those levels after having fallen to outside the top 1400 at one point this year.
A quarterfinal appearance at the WTA 250 event in Chennai has gone a long way in helping her climb up the charts and while she has followed that up with successive first round losses, Bouchard has shown positive intent.
She forced Tatjana Maria into two tie-breakers at Seoul while took a set off Belinda Bencic in Ostrava last week before going down.
And now as she takes on the returning Kalinina, Bouchard might have some trick up her sleeve to surprise the world number 45.
