Denis Shapovalov v Franko Skugor Head to Head
This is the first time that the two players will meet each other on the ATP Tour.
Shapovalov’s Rocky Start to the Season
The Canadian, who is just 19 years of age, has started his season on a rather uneventful spell. In the three ATP events has played in so far, he has won just five matches and lost three. His best run came last week in Montpellier, where he lost in the quarterfinal to Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
Prior to that, he had made it to the third round in the Australian Open. However, he did perform well in the Davis Cup as he won both of his fixtures against the Slovakian team.
The World No. 25 is seeking his maiden singles title on the circuit. The best he has been able to do so far is reaching the semifinal at the ATP Tokyo and Madrid Masters last year.
Skugor – A Doubles Player who is Looking to Rise
The 31-year-old Skugor is primarily a doubles player and is ranked well within the top 30. However, as a singles player, he hasn’t been able to do much of late.
He has participated only in ASB Auckland and Sofia Open so far and in both the cases, he lost his qualifying matches. His best run on the circuit in the recent months came last month in Winston-Salem, where he reached the second round as a qualifier.
In the same season, however, he won three doubles titles, including the one in Basel, partnered with Dominic Inglot.
Shapovalov v Skugor Predictions & Tips
Shapovalov will start this match as the overwhelming favourite. The 10th seed has been in a far better form than Skugor in recent weeks. However, the latter is far more experienced and for him to deliver an upset here, he will need to dig into his doubles experience.
At 5/1 with bet365 , Skugor has odds stacked against him. Meanwhile, the Canadian is favoured to win at 1/8.
You can watch & bet on Denis Shapovalov v Franko Skugor on Tuesday, February 12.
