Andy Murray v Roberto Bautista Agut Head to Head

Murray leads 3-2, but in their last two meetings, Agut has emerged as the victor. They most recently met in the 2022 Doha Open where the Spaniard won 6-0, 6-1.

Murray Survives Safiullin

Andy Murray, currently ranked World No. 49, began his campaign in Basel with a three-set slogfest against Russia’s Roman Safiullin. The 35-year-old Brit took the match 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4.

With this, his record has now improved to 26-17 as he continues to build on his resurgence after a tumultuous spell in the last few years.

A litany of injuries kept Murray out of the commission, but in 2022, he finally put that behind him as he ascended back into the top 50 – after staying out of the top 100 for the last four seasons.

Andy’s highlights of the year include a couple of runner-up feats in Sydney and Stuttgart, although these results were interspersed between many early-round exits. His last tournament before coming to Switzerland was in Gijon, where he fell in the quarters to Sebastian Korda.

Murray is certainly not at his best yet – which is understandable given his age and physical fitness. Nonetheless, for him to be playing at this level despite all his woes is a commendable accomplishment.

Agut Storms Past Djere

Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut wasted no time in starting his campaign with a resounding win as he beat Laslo Djere 6-4, 6-1 in the opener.

The 34-yer-old has had a good season so far; his tally is 37-17 – supported by his two singles titles from Doha and Kitzbuhel and his runner-up feats in the ATP Cup and Mallorca. Having competed in a final on all three surfaces in 2022, Agut will be pleased with his performance on the ATP Tour.

Of late, however, his form has dropped as he lost his opening-round bouts in the US Open, ATP Gijon, and ATP Naples – respectively to J.J. Wolf, Sebastian Korda, and Mackenzie McDonald.

Bautista Agut has endured such ruts this year, putting him on the back foot when he takes on Murray.

Murray v Bautista Agut Prediction and Tip

This will be a great game of tennis. Both players are evenly-matched for this one, and while Agut is the odds-on favourite, we can’t help but back Murray.

The Brit has been resilient, and given his opponent’s recent form woes, he will fancy his chances of reaching the quarters.
