Botic van de Zandschulp v Maximilian Marterer Head to Head
Botic van de Zandschulp leads Maximilian Marterer 1-0 in their series. The Dutchman defeated the German lefty on an indoor hard court at the Koblenz Challenger back in 2020.

Van De Zandschulp Makes Winning Start in Pune
It was a winning start to 2023 for Botic van Zandschulp. His run in Pune mirrors his achievement at the Melbourne Summer Set 1 from last season where he made a quarterfinal before losing to Grigor Dimitrov.
The scenario is slightly different this time. Van De Zandschulp goes into his quarterfinal match this time as the clear favorite against Germany’s Marterer who is looking to rediscover his pre-pandemic form.
Van de Zandschulp was given a huge scare early on by Italian qualifier Flavio Cobolli who snatches an unlikely break of serve to lead 4-2. That lead, however, did not for long as the Dutchman won five of the next six games to turn the set on its head.
The second set was a carbon copy of the first set. Against van de Zandschulp went down break, but still found his range to dig himself out of trouble against the world No. 171, breaking him twice in succession at the end of the set.

Marterer Authors Upset Win Over Djere
Laslo Djere’s wait for a first quarterfinal in Pune will have to wait for another year as the Serbian fell at the second-round stage for the third time.
Marterer inflicted that defeat this time. After a tight opening set which was decided in a tiebreak, Marterer surprisingly dominated the second, breaking Djere’s serve.
For all the good work that Djere had done this week, it was the German lefty who looked assured in their baseline exchanges and won 50% of return points behind the second. Marterer also out-aced Djere, firing 11 aces to Djere’s six, and did not face a single break point in the match.
A first semifinal in four years beckons for the former World No. 45.
Van de Zandschulp v Marterer Prediction and Tip
It has been quite an eventful week for Marterer who survived a grueling qualifying match against Gunneswaran and hasn’t looked back. But Botic van de Zandschulp has a higher ceiling and should be able to stay consistent in his groundstrokes execution. But this could be tight.
