Veronika Kudermetova v Victoria Azarenka Head to Head
There has been one previous encounter played between these two players which came at the 2022 WTA Dubai and Kudermetova had won that in straight sets.

She might have even been one of the pre-tournament favourites coming into the Adelaide International last week. Even more so after she demolished her first two opponents, Amanda Anisimova and Bianca Andreescu.
In both those encounters, she started off reasonably well but then stormed into the next round by bagelling her opponent in the second set.
Coming up against Irina Begu in the quarterfinals, Kudermetova was a whopping 1/4 to win it but strangely, never found any kind of rhythm. She went down in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, losing her serve a whopping six times.
Against Azarenka, an opponent she has beaten before, Kudermetova will hope to get her serving back on track – a 58% of first serves in and just 47% of those won isn’t the kind of statistic you want to see as a world number nine headed into the Australian Open.

Azarenka Also in a Shock Loss
Much like Kudermetova, Azarenka also participated in the Adelaide International last week, the first tournament of the season for the Belarusian.
She won the first couple of rounds in straight sets, overcoming Anhelina Kalinina and Qinwen Zheng in straight sets to make it to the quarterfinals.
And having started off as a 1/2 favourite against Linda Noskova there, Azarenka would have thought a semifinal berth was there for her taking. Instead, the former world number one went down fighting, losing the final set tie-breaker to her 102nd-ranked opponent.
Now coming up against Kudermetova, Azarenka will know she has her work cut out ahead of her favourite Grand Slam but she also enters with the knowledge she has the game to disrupt the world number nine.

This could turn out to be a close encounter but we give Kudermetova the edge, having gotten past Azarenka in their previous match-up last season. In three sets.
