Belinda Bencic v Garbine Muguruza Head to Head
There have been three previous matches between these two players, all of which came in hardcourt competitions.
Bencic has won two of them including the Rogers Cup round of 16 encounter last season.

Bencic enters this tournament desperate for some practice in the lead-up to Australian Open having played in just two matches since the last season ended November.
Having finished things off with four victories in the Billie Jean King Cup where she was at her murderous best, Bencic’s Switzerland featured against Kazakhstan and Poland in the United Cup.
And while Bencic was able to ward off Yulia Putintseva in straight sets, she was no match for Iga Swiatek in the second match. In turn, Poland knocked Switzerland out of the competition as well, leaving Bencic with just a couple of matches under her belt.
She will hope to add another couple of matches here in the lead-up to the season’s opening Grand Slam but to do that she will need to get past a former Grand Slam winner, Muguruza, who has slid down the rankings.

Muguruza Knocked Out Early in Adelaide
Till about October last season, Muguruza was still in touching distance of breaking back into the top 10 of the WTA Rankings but as the year had gone along there was that sense of the Spaniard losing her grip over her form.
And finally as she failed to defend her ranking points in multiple tournaments and kept losing in early stages in most of those competitions, Muguruza slumped to 57th in the world.
Ending the season ranked 55th on the WTA charts, she would have like to start things off solidly in the Adelaide International last week. And for a while it looked like she had done that too as she bagelled Bianca Andreescu in the first set of their opening round encounter.
Strangely, her game fell away after that as Muguruza fell to a 0-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1 loss to her Canadian opponent.
And now she faces another challenging player in the form of Bencic. Things cannot get any tougher for Muguruza as she searches for the kind of form that could bring her back into the top 30 for starters.

Muguruza might have been in struggles recently but has shown enough sparkle to suggest she isn’t out of it. Expect her to push Bencic to three sets.
