Jang Su-jeong v Zhu Lin Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings at the WTA level between these two players with Lin having won both – once at the 2014 Nanchang Open and the other at the 2022 WTA Seoul.

They have also faced off three times on the ITF circuit and Su-jeong leads 2-1 there.

Jang Stuns Boulter in Opener

In a match lasting two hours and 40 minutes, Jang overcame Katie Boulter to move into the second round as she looks to wade her way to her career-best ranking of 114th in the world.

Jang, who was 3/1 underdog to send Boulter out, came away a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 winner in her opener following on from an otherwise poor start to the season. The South Korean player had earlier fallen in the first round of the Canberra ITF competition and failed to make it to the main draw at the Australian Open.

Rather interestingly, for a player known for her solidity in hardcourt competitions, Jang has won a WTA title on clay and it came in Bastad last season.

This year, she hasn’t started off too well on hard courts, but a shock win over Boulter should hold her in a good stead coming into one against the in-form Lin.

Lin at Career-Best after Australian Open Showing

Lin has never been ranked better than her current ranking of 54th in the world. And with a first round win over fellow Chinese player Xiyu Wang in Hua Hin, things are expected to only improve. Another victory here in round two against a player she is a favourite could propel her into the top 50.

Things didn’t quite start off well for Lin here though.

Having made the fourth round at Australian Open, Lin needed two and a half hours and had to overcome three breaks of serves to down Wang 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 in her opener.

Where Lin did struggle was at closing out the games as she needed 22 break-points to earn herself six breaks of serves.

Lin starts off with a lot of confidence as she looks to make it past her previous best at the Hua Hin Open where she had made the second round in 2020.

Su-jeong v Lin Prediction and Tip

Lin is 3/10 to win this and 4/5 to do that in straight sets. Despite Lin’s sub-par effort in the first set of her opener, we will have to back her to go all the way here, and rather easily at that.
