Isner Yet to Win a Match This Season
While it must be quickly added to the headline above that Isner has played in just two tournaments so far this season, it still is a big surprise he hasn’t won a single match.
The American, ranked eighth in the world till very recently, has skipped down to 39th on the rankings but with the booming serve he has could have been expected to do a lot better than losing in the first round at both the tournaments he’s featured in this year.
In the first at Auckland, he was sent packing by 7/5 underdog Gregoire Barrerre. Still, it could have been put down to early season rustiness.
It’s his second successive opening round exit which came at the Australian Open that would have been a concern. It came at the hands of Adrian Mannarino who was 1/1 coming into the encounter, with Isner lasting four sets.
Can Isner now reverse this trend and try and win this opener against a player ranked outside the top 100?

Tseng 0-3 for the Year
While Tseng did finally win a match in the Davis Cup late last week, his record at the highest level this season is no wins from three matches.
The Chinese Taipei player fell in straight sets to Benjamin Bonzi at the Pune Open and was then bundled out in the first qualifying round at Auckland. Starting out as a direct entrant at the Australian Open, Tseng put up a fight there but lost to Alexei Popyrin in five sets.
Tseng, who is 21 years old, has been a part of the main draws at all the four Grand Slams but hasn’t won a single match there. Most of his exploits at the highest level have come on the Challenger circuit where he has won three singles titles and has been a runner-up three other times.
Can he put up a fight against his fifth seeded opponent here?
