Bernabe Zapata Miralles v Tomas Barrios Vera Head to Head

The opening match of this year’s South American Golden Swing was a marathon for the record books. Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Roberto Carballes got their socks dirt on the clay of Cordoba for three hours and 26 minutes – the longest match in the tournament’s history.
And it was Zapata Miralles who battled past a determined opponent and cramps towards the end to win a pulsating match 6-7 6-3 7-5.
In the process, he ended his three-match losing run in 2023 and won on his main draw debut. The first set alone lasted an hour and 15 minutes, with two players exchanging breaks and Crabelles Baena saving a set point in the ensuing tiebreak before clinching it when Miralles fired his last backhand long.
But Zapata Miralles restored with two service breaks in the second set. And in the decider he came from a break down and appeared to be struggling physically. But playing on adrenaline rush got him past the finish line.

Barrios Vera Stuns Elahi Galan
Tomas Barrios Vera scored just his third Tour-level win of his career with a 7-6 6-2 win over Daniel Elahi Galan in the first round of the Cordoba Open.
Despite sitting over 150 spots below the Colombian in ranking, Barrios Vera took advantage of a rusty Galan who was playing on clay for the first time this season.
Barrios Vera, by contrast, had been to a final on the Challenger final in Piracicaba. And after the pair fought tooth and nail for over an hour in the first set, it was the Chilean who won the tiebreak 8-6.
Galan was under pressure almost the entire second set. He was broken three times and won a measly 17% points behind his second serve.
Zapata Miralles v Barrios Vera Prediction and Tip
An upset could be on the cards here. Zapata Miralles is coming off a marathon three-setter and appeared to be wilting toward the end of his match against Caraballes Baena. Barrios Vera shocked the Spaniard in their only career meeting before this on clay. And at 5/4, looks like smart money to win again.
