Elena Rybakina v Karolina Pliskova Head to Head

Elena Rybakina leads the series 2-0, winning both matches on hard courts. She came out on top in the first round of Guadalajara in straight sets in their most recent match.

Rybakina’s First Match Since Australian Open Final Defeat

Elena Rybakina is set to mark her return to action at the Abu Dhabi Open, just two weeks from her Australian Open runner-up finish.

Rybakina memorably lost to Aryna Sabalenka in a gripping final at Melbourne Park last month and will be keen to get back to winning ways against a player she has beaten twice in their head-to-head.

The Kazakh’s record in the Middle East makes for pretty good reading. In her three visits to the Arab peninsula, Rybakina has made the quarterfinals in the first edition of the Abu Dhabi Open and also finished runner-up in the Dubai final in 2020.

With a top-10 ranking to her name, Rybakina’s name is garnering the respect and adoration that she deserves. So how will she fare in her first match back?

Pliskova Eases Past Bonaventure

A late change of her first-round opponent did not affect Karolina Pliskova one bit. Initially, she was slated to face Garbine Muguruza in a battle between two former World No. 1s.

However, the Spaniard pulled out at the 11th hour citing personal reasons. Lucky loser Ysaline Bonaventure replaced Muguruza but was not adept in keeping Pliskova at bay.

In fact, Pliskova barely broke a sweat in dismissing the Belgian lefty in 48 minutes –  the shortest match of the week so far.

The Czech made a fast start as she romped to take the first set 6-1 in just 20 minutes. And in the second set, Pliskova secured a double break to complete a routine win.

Despite landing 58% of first serves, she won 86% first serve points and 81% behind her second serve.

Rybakina v Pliskova Prediction and Tip

Pliskova delivered an absolute thumping in her first match. Rybakina is coming in as the overwhelming favorite, but this is a very difficult match to call from a result perspective. Their two meetings before this have had at least one tiebreak set and we are going with the games market here for a safe pick.
