Vondrousova continued her march back to where she belongs on the women’s rankings charts after registering a crushing second round win here against Rebeka Masarova.
In a match which lasted barely 60 minutes, Vondrousova sealed her place in the quarterfinal with a 6-1, 6-1 win over her Spanish opponent. Vondrousova broke her opponent five times from the 11 chances she got while never facing a break-point in the match.
She was at her best on serve, winning all but seven points in the encounter while taking advantage of her opponent’s second serve and allowing Masarova to win just one point on it.
Having beaten Viktoriya Tomova in the first round in straight sets too, Vondrousova will hope to continue this run right through to the later stages of this tournament as she looks to break into the top-50 of the WTA Rankings again.

Galfi Surprise Quarterfinalist
Here’s what Galfi’s record over the last eight matches including four at the end of the 2022 season was. She had lost all eight of them, including matches on the ITF circuit and qualifiers of WTA tournaments.
Which is why, qualifying for this tournament in the first place with two wins in the qualifiers was a big turnaround of its own. But more importantly for Galfi to then go on to win back to back main draw matches was a stunner.
She started off as a heavy 19/5 underdog against Bernarda Pera in the first round but managed a straight-set win. And in the second, she overcame Eva Lys 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to seal off her place in the quarterfinals.
