Tomas Martin Etcheverry v Hugo Dellien Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 23 year old Argentine, and the Bolivian, who is six years older.

Etcheverry Looking for First Clay Win of 2023

Etcheverry broke into the top 100 in the world last year, mainly due to his form on the Challenger tour, where he reached five finals, all of them on clay, even though he only managed to win the first of them, in Chile.

He made his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open last year as a qualifier, and would also appear in the main draws in Paris and Wimbledon, without getting beyond the first round.

However, he has already improved on that record in 2023.

Spared the rigours of qualifying in Melbourne this time round, he beat Gregoire Barrere of France in four sets in their first round match.

Jannik Sinner, though, ensured he would go no further, handing him a straight sets defeat in their second round match.

His first match of the year on clay in Cordoba last week ended in disappointment. Playing Joao Sousa, he took the first set off the Portuguese, but Sousa fought back to win the next two.

Cordoba Semi-Finalist Dellien

When the ATP rankings are next published, Dellien will be hopeful of being placed higher than 138th in the world, after reaching his first senior semi-final in Cordoba last week.

He had been forced to qualify there, but beat a succession of Argentine players, including Pedro Cachin, and Juan Manuel Cerdundulo, on his way to the last four.

However, another, Sebastian Baez, the world number 47, proved too strong for him, and he suffered a straight sets defeat.

The Bolivian number one, he became the first player from his country to win a Grand Slam match for 35 years when he reached the second round of the French Open in 2019, a feat he repeated at the US Open later that year, and again in Paris in 2022.

Prior to that run in Cordoba, he had begun his season with a straight sets defeat in the first round of the Australian Open, and then got to the semi-final of a Challenger tournament on clay in Chile.

Etcheverry v Dellien Prediction and Tip

Dellien will be full of confidence after his run in Cordoba, but he may be expecting too much of himself to repeat such heroics two weeks in a row. Etcheverry suffered disappointment on home soil last time out, but will be hoping for better fortune this time round.
