Mayar Sherif v Camila Giorgi Head to Head

This will be the first career meeting between World No. 53 Mayar Sherif and World No. 68 Camila Giorgi.

Sherif With Single Main Draw Win in 2023

Mayar Sherif arrives at the Merida Open with just one win in main draw matches in 2023. That came in the first round of Lyon at the start of February when she defeated Ana Konjuh.

Sherif would lose in the subsequent round to Czech teenage sensation Linda Noskova in straight sets. It was the first time that Sherif got a taste of indoor hard courts, having not played on the surface at a professional level.

The Egyptian, not long ago, cracked the world’s top 50 for the first time-a groundbreaking milestone for the 26-year-old – becoming the first player from her nation to do so.

Although she has slipped a few spots outside the half-centurion club, Sherif will be keen to make a deep run in Merida. But with just one win in 13 hard-court matches, the odds are clearly stacked against her.

Giorgi Falls Down Pecking Order

Camila Giorgi lost most of the points she garnered during the 2021 season when she won the WTA 1000 Montreal. Having been ranked inside the top 30, Giorgi has now slipped down to 68th in the world ahead of her Merida Open bout.

Giorgi shut down her 2022 season early after losing the Round of 16 on her return to Canada, ending her title defense, and then lost in the second round of the US Open.

She did not play again until the start of 2023. Her record has been modest, to say the least, with three wins in seven matches. That includes a third-round run at the Australian Open – which remains her best result this season.

But outside Melbourne, she was beaten by Katie Swan in the qualifying rounds of Lyon and then lost a three-set barnburner in Linz against Clara Tauson.

Sherif v Giorgi Prediction and Tip

It would be a seismic shock if Giorgi loses this match. She can be profoundly error-prone, but Sherif has a terrible record on this surface and it’s highly unlikely she will get anything here.
