Magda Linette v Rebecca Peterson Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these players at the highest level and Peterson leads 2-1. Linette won their previous match which came at the 2021 Indian Wells Open.

Linette Helped by Udvardy Retirement

Things could have gone either way but Linette was fortunate enough to move into the quarterfinal because of an injury to Panna Udvardy and her subsequent retirement from the encounter.

Linette had grabbed the first set by that time but was 2-5 down in the second when Udvardy called it quits about an hour and a quarter into the match.

The top seeded player from Poland was helped by Udvardy’s serving yips in the first set with two double-faults and a mere three of 15 points won on serve. Linette would go on to struggle on her own serve in the second set as she won just 12 of the 27 points while serving.

This win follows a three-set edging out of Camila Osorio in the first round for Linette. That was also another topsy-turvy encounter but Linette looks to have reached a stage in her career this season where she is finding ways of winning encounters.

Which is also why Linette has a 10-3 win-loss record for the season and has climbed up to 21st in the world. Can she now take down the experienced Swede in her last eight match?

Peterson Ends Parks’ Reign

Alycia Parks was a slight favourite in her second round match, having earlier this month won a title on the WTA circuit too. However, Peterson’s experience proved too much for the American to handle as she went on to clinch her quarterfinal place in straight sets.

Peterson won 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 27 minutes to follow her straight-set victory over Nadia Podoroska in the first round.

The match looked to be living up to its odds with nothing to choose between the two as they traded a break apiece to take the first set to 4-4. Peterson edged forward with a break in the ninth game and then broke yet again in the third game of the second.

She faced no break-points in the second set either while adding a second break in the seventh game before serving it out.

It might not be as easy as that against Linette but Peterson has done what can be expected out of her so far in this tournament. Can she make it three in three?

Linette v Peterson Prediction and Tip

On the one hand is a player who has scraped to wins but has been in excellent form throughout the season. On the other is one who has struggled to make it count otherwise but has eased to four successive wins including a couple in the qualifiers. Sure sounds like all the makings of a delicious encounter here.
