Kvitova Hoping to Continue Her Positive Start
Kvitova started the season as the World No. 7 and on the back of a few exceptional performances, she has made it to the No. 2 position in the rankings.
She won the WTA Sydney and followed it with a couple of runner-up feats in the Australian Open and WTA Dubai. Between these two tournaments, she also reached the quarterfinal in the St. Petersburg Open.
However, the two-time Wimbledon champion incurred an early defeat in Indian Wells a couple of weeks back – her first such defeat since the China Open last season. It came in the second round against Venus Williams in three demanding sets.
The only other instances where she has lost this season were in those finals against Naomi Osaka and Belinda Bencic, along with that quarterfinal defeat in St. Petersburg to Donna Vekic.
A Positive Start for Sakkari
Sakkari is heading into this fixture after edging past Olga Danilovic in the first round with 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, in almost two hours. This is also the first time since the Australian Open that Sakkari has won her opening match and made it to the second round.
Since her third round appearance in Melbourne – a feat she achieved after defeating Jelena Ostapenko and Astra Sharma, she incurred a series of first-round losses. She was defeated early in St. Petersburg, Acapulco, and most recently, Indian Wells.
Petra Kvitova v Maria Sakkari Predictions & Tips
On one hand, Kvitova will be expected to win this one rather comfortably. On the other hand, three of her four losses this season have come at the hands of 20-something players. With that in mind, Sakkari will fancy her chances here and at the very least, will give a good fight to Kvitova.
The Greek has some winning experience on the tour and the Czech will need to keep an eye out for that.
