First things first, and the ATP Next Gen Finals is a newly-formed tournament which was first played in 2017. The format of the competition was on the lines of the ATP World Tour Finals but with a few tweaks to the way the matches were played.
Eight players participate in this competition and as the name ATP Next Gen Finals suggests they are players who are expected to be the next-generation stars.
They were divided into two groups of four each. Every player played three matches and at the end of the round-robin league stage of the tournament, the top two made it to the semi-finals. This was followed by the final.
