The 2020 edition of the Gstaad Open begins on July 20, played on outdoor red courts and will go all the way through to Sunday, July 26. The qualifiers of the tournament will be held on July 17-19 before the start of the main draw matches with some possible overlap with the opening round.

Albert Ramos Vinolas won his first ever title at the Swiss Open when he defeated Cedrik-Marcel Stebe in the final of the competition in straight sets last year. Since 2012 when Thomaz Bellucci won his second title at the Swiss Open, no player has won the Swiss Open more than once so far. Since the year 2001, only one other player apart from Bellucci has won this title more than once – Jiri Novak.
