The Croatia Open is a part of the ATP 250 series, and played in the month of July each year.

What happened at the 2022 ATP Croatia Open?

Jannik Sinner overcame a first set deficit in the final to carve out a win over the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the 2022 Umag Open.

Sinner, who had an opening round bye and hadn’t dropped a set till the final, clinched the title 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-1.

Third seeded Holger Rune, who would end the season as a top-10 player, crashed out of the tournament in the second round to Bernabe Zapata Miralles.

It’s Carlos Alcaraz who won the Croatia Open title in 2021 by defeating Richard Gasquet in the final. He triumphed easily winning 6-2, 6-2.

The seventh seeded Spaniard had his difficulties in getting past Lucas Pouille in the first round after going a set down against him, and then dropping a set to the third seeded Filip Krajinovic in the quarterfinals.

Alcaraz then sent the top seeded Albert Ramos-Vinolas packing from the tournament in the semis.

The 2020 edition of the Umag Open was one of the tournaments cancelled because of the pandemic.

Fourth seeded Dusan Lajovic came away winner at the 2019 edition of the Umag Open, defeating surprise finalist Attila Balazs in the title-decider. That was Balazs’ first ever appearance in the final of an ATP competition and while he went down, it was not before he put up a fight, losing 5-7, 5-7.

Earlier, Balazs had defeated the sixth seeded Filip Krajinovic in the second round and then overcame Laslo Djere in the semifinal to make it the final. The top two seeds in the competition Fabio Fognini and Borna Coric were both sent packing in the second round, with the Italian getting injured during his match.
