Roger Federer v John Millman Head to Head

Roger Federer and John Millman meet in the third round of the Australian Open. This is the fourth meeting between both players with Federer leading the head-to-head 2-1.

The one meeting that will be on everyone’s mind especially the Swiss maestro will be the four set win by Millman in the fourth round of the 2018 US Open.

Federer Off To A Strong Start

Six time Australian Open champion Roger Federer arrived in Melbourne appearing in a record 21st Australian Open short on match practice after choosing to opt out of the inaugural ATP Cup in Australia.

Unlike previous years where he warmed up with the Hopman Cup, there was concern this year that he maybe rusty having not played since the semi-finals of the year-end ATP finals in London almost two months ago.

With convincing straight set wins against Steve Johnson and Filip Krajinovic, Federer has put any concerns around lack of match practice to rest, and has looked in sublime form.

The Swiss has looked strong on serve and displayed an array of sparkling strokes from his repertoire, at times defying age with his agility.

Federer faces Australian John Millman, who he will be familiar with, not only because he is someone that the Swiss practices with  frequently, but also that Millman defeated Federer in the fourth round of the US Open in 2018, under grueling hot and humid conditions, in four sets.

Convincing Victories for Millman

Aussie John Millman has been on the tour for more than a decade, but has had start-stop career that has never really been consistent.

Currently ranked just within the top 50 in the world, he was a US Open quarter-finalist in 2018 and rose as high as number 33 in the rankings, around the same time he defeated Federer in the fourth round in New York.

Millman failed to maintain similar form and except a strong showing at the Japan Open ATP 500 in Tokyo where he was a finalist to Novak Djokovic, it was a none too exciting season for the Queenslander.

The Aussie has looked sharp in his first two rounds in Melbourne defeating the Auckland Classic winner Ugo Humbert in four sets and then a straight sets win against up and coming Pole Hubert Hurkacz.

Roger Federer v John Millman Predictions & Tips

Given the history between the players, the occasion and the venue, Federer will know this is not just any round of 32 encounter. The Swiss will be wary of the past, especially being a major again on a hard court.
