Pablo Cuevas v Federico Delbonis Predictions & Preview

Five previous meetings between Pablo Cuevas and Federico Delbonis have all come on clay and these clay-court specialists meet again for the sixth time on the same surface. Cuevas leads 3-2 on head to head but Delbonis had won their previous encounter in 2019, at Bastad and in straight sets which should give him some confidence heading into this one.

This is despite the difference between their current rankings with Cuevas ranked 46th in the world to his opponent’s 76th. Cuevas also has had a tough start to the season with just one win recorded so far to his five losses including three at the ATP Cup and one in the opening round of the Australian Open.

Delbonis is 3-3 on win-loss this year but it must be quickly added all of these matches for both players have come on hard court surfaces, so it might not have a lot bearing on this opener except for a teeny-weeny bit of confidence. Based on that, picking Delbonis to edge out his opponent here.

Tip: Delbonis to win: 8/11 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)

Fernando Verdasco v Carlos Taberner Predictions & Preview

Spaniards Fernando Verdasco and Carlos Taberner will go head to head in the first round at Cordoba and in what will be their first ever meeting. With a difference of 130-odd ranks and 14 years between them, Verdasco should start off as a favourite, as can be seen from bet365’s odds of 2/5 for his win too.

Verdasco’s only issue is he hasn’t had a great season of clay last year, with eight wins and nine losses on it. He started off well this year, reaching the quarterfinal at Doha and then the third round of the Australian Open where he lost to Alexander Zverev but can he convert that form into something neat on clay?

For a first round match against an opponent who was knocked out in his opener at Punta del Este Challenger last week, Verdasco should win this but he will need to get used to clay quickly. Might drop a set.

Tip: Verdasco to win: 2/5 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)

Lorenzo Sonego v Attila Balazs Predictions & Preview

Having played once before in a 2017 Challenger competition, the 53rd-ranked Lorenzo Sonego had won that in three sets against Attila Balazs. Now, these two come into this encounter on the back of a strange start to the season and one that’s tough to understand how it affects their play in this one.

Sonego has played three matches across three tournaments and lost all of them. This includes defeats at Doha, Auckland and the Australian Open to opponents of different pedigree. Balazs has won six in a row before he lost his first but all of those seven came in the Challenger circuit with the now 112th-ranked Hungarian opting to not feature at the Australian Open.

Stirring the pot a bit is all these matches for both players came on hard court surfaces and the change to clay will be an interesting one.

Tip: Sonego to win: 8/11 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)

Juan Pablo Ficovich v Gianluca Mager Predictions & Preview

Mager’s a 117th-ranked Italian, taking on the 235th-ranked Ficovich who has done well on clay at the lower circuits. Mager himself is no slouch on such surfaces with a 33-14 record last season on clay and is currently close to his career-best ranking. Should score a win over the talented Ficovich in this one but in three sets.

Tip: Mager to win in three sets: 15/4 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
