Ricardas Berankis v Cedrik-Marcel Stebe Predictions & Preview

The two 29-year-olds Ricardas Berankis and Cedrik-Marcel Stebe face off in the second round of the Pune Open having played each other once before. That meeting came nearly 11 years ago in a Challenger and Stebe had edged out Berankis in it, which might not count for too much at the moment.

What might count, however, is Berankis is 73rd in the world, to Stebe’s 149th, having once been 71st on the ATP Rankings. And it shows in the kind of tournaments they have opted to play too.

Berankis featured at the Doha Open where he lost his opener, before making it to the second round at the Australian Open and going down to Sam Querrey. Stebe featured at the Noumea Challenger where he made the semifinal and while one thought that would have given him the necessary confidence, his follow-up was a first round loss at the Australian Open.

To be fair to Stebe he did push the much higher-ranked Benoit Paire to a fifth set in that one but the even better news is his opening round win here in Pune. That was his first victory in the main draw of an ATP tournament this season, as he crushed Ivo Karlovic in straight sets. Berankis is coming off a bye.

Stefano Travaglia v Ilya Ivashka Predictions & Preview

Third seeded Stefano Travaglia plays his first match at the Pune Open this year with a second round encounter against Ilya Ivashka. And he starts off a favourite despite his discomfiture at the hands of Christian Garin in the Australian Open, who routed him in the straight sets in round one.

That’s because he is not just 70 places ahead of Ivashka but also because of the form he showed in the lead-up to the Australian Open. Travaglia won two of his three matches at the ATP Cup and then featured in the Bendigo Challenger where he reached the final.

Expect him to regain that form against a player who has only just won his first main draw match against Evgeny Donskoy. Ivashka had gone in as a favourite and dropped just five games in that win.

Tip: Travaglia to win: 11/8 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)

Salvatore Caruso v Jiri Vesely Predictions & Preview

On paper there’s not much to choose between these two players with the 98th-ranked Caruso taking on the 107th-ranked Vesely in this second round encounter on Wednesday. Still, Caruso’s relatively poorer start to the season has meant Vesely starts off  marginal favourite in this one with bet365 offering 4/6 for his victory to 11/10 for a Caruso win.

Caruso lost in the first qualifier at Doha, first round in Adelaide, and followed it up with a drubbing at the hands of Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Australian Open opener. Even against India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan, he was stretched to three sets. Vesely won 6-2, 6-4 against Arjun Kadhe, but he was expected to do that after starting out at 1/12 to win it but that aside he hasn’t won a single main draw ATP match.

This is probably why if you want to take your chances, Caruso might be a good option to go with.

Yuichi Sugita v Viktor Troicki Predictions & Preview

86th-ranked Yuichi Sugita will be playing his first ever match against Serbia’s Viktor Troicki, who is ranked 191st in the world.

Sugita, a runner-up at the Noumea Challenger, made the second round at the Australian Open and then drubbed Thomas Fabbiano in straight sets to set up this meeting. Troicki, who failed to qualify for the Australian Open and needed two wins to make the main draw here, then needed three sets to overcome Sumit Nagal in the first round here.

Troicki has shown to be a fighter but his poor hard court record and Sugita’s better recent performances make the latter a favourite. Another three-setter though.

Tip: Sugita to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
