Kiki Bertens v Maria Sakkari Head to Head
The two players have met a total of five times on the WTA Tour of which, Bertens has won three matches.
Last season, they met thrice with the Dutchwoman winning two of those three encounters. Those two wins came in the Madrid Open and WTA Seoul. As for Sakkari’s second win over Bertens, that one came in the Italian Open.
Bertens Off to a Winning Start
Kiki Bertens, who is now the World No. 6 following a rather interesting performance in March, has started her run in the tournament on a positive note. She moved past the Italian qualifier Martina Trevisan with 6-2, 6-1 to reach the third round.
Needless to mention, her clay season is off to a solid start and she will be hoping to retain the momentum she found at the start of the season. With a singles trophy in St. Petersburg and a career-high singles ranking, Bertens is moving closer to the top five.
She also reached the fourth round in the Miami Masters and Indian Wells – a feat that resulted in her push in the rankings. Throughout the season, she has been fairly confident and consistent, barring a couple of unexpected losses here and there.
Sakkari in Need of a Strong Performance
The year so far hasn’t been kind to Sakkari. The 2018 WTA San Jose runner-up has won only five matches so far, two of which came in Charleston itself.
She lost in the first round in many tournaments like the WTA Hobart, St. Petersburg Open, Mexican Open, and the Indian Wells Open. In Miami, she did manage to reach the second round but lost to Petra Kvitova.
Her performance so far in this tournament has been the best one of her season. Sakkari started with a three-set win over Conny Perrin and then dispatched Andrea Petkovic in the second round with 6-3, 6-0.
Bertens v Sakkari Predictions & Tips
This looks like a decent win for Bertens. She has been in a much better form of late than Sakkari and shouldn’t have any major difficulties in reaching the next round.
However, Bertens has had her fair share of shocking losses and Sakkari will certainly give her best here.
Tip: Bertens to win 2-11: 6/5 (Unibet)
