Cameron Norrie v Janko Tipsarevic Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the world number 55, and the player currently almost 300 places below him in the rankings.

Norrie Showing Underlying Signs of Progress

This year 23-year-old Norrie has continued his steady climb up the rankings to his current status of world 55. The South African-born Britain, who represented New Zealand in his youth, has had a mixed year to date, but underlying signs of progress can be detected.

He reached his first ATP final in Auckland before losing to Tennys Sandgren, and reached the semi-final in Acapulco. However, he lost in the first round in Melbourne, Indian Wells and Miami. and his early season forays on clay did not yield much success. He lost first time out in Cordoba, and was beaten in the second round in Rio.

Coming into this match, he had a first round bye and will hope he can kick-start his clay-court swing with a win but up against him is a tricky opponent. And with the clay-court swing just starting out and the Monte-Carlo Masters up next, it would be interesting to see how Norrie goes about his play on this surface.

Tipsarevic Back on Tour after Injury Problems

Tipsarevic missed the back end of 2017, and the whole of the 2018 season due to injury, so this is very much a comeback year for the man once ranked as high as eight in the world, having won four senior ATP titles to his name.

His protected ranking gave him entry into the Australian Open in January, but he lost in the first round to Grigor Dimitrov, and since then has struggled to find form, playing on both the ATP and Challenger tours.

The Serb got to the round of sixteen of the Bangkok Challenger, and the second round in both the Miami Masters and Monterrey Challenger, but this is his first clay court tournament of the year.

Encouragement though will be gleaned from his first round victory in Houston against Tennys Sandgren, which probably represents his best result since he returned to the tour.

Norrie v Tipsarevic Predictions & Tips

Norrie will start odds-on favourite for the match at 9/13 whilst Tipsarevic is priced at 23/17. The Serb has very little form coming into this match after all his injury problems, so Norrie should have an edge in terms of fitness, and that should be enough for him to come through.

Tip: Norrie to win: 9/13 (Bovada)
