Gilles Simon v Taro Daniel Head to Head

This is the first time that the two players are meeting on the ATP Tour.

Daniel’s Best Run of the Season

Taro Daniel – the 26-year-old Japanese came to Marrakech with a win-loss tally of 4-8. His best run on the tour, prior to this, came in the Australian Open, where he reached the second round. Daniel also reached the same stage in ATP Brisbane and Sydney.

Since then, he has spent most of his time on the tour attempting to move past the early rounds, with little success. In Sao Paolo, Indian Wells, and Miami, he lost his opening matches.

In Marrakech, however, he has been fairly impressive with good wins over Mischa Zverev and Adrian Menendez-Maceiras.

Simon in Need of a Good Run

Just like Daniel, Simon too hasn’t had the best of the season so far. He started the year on a superb note with back-to-back semifinal appearances in the ATP Pune and Sydney International. However, the Frenchman failed to retain that momentum and ended up losing early in Melbourne, Montpellier, and Rotterdam.

Once again, he reached the quarterfinal in Marseille but ended up losing to David Goffin. His performance in the Sunshine Doubles was along the same lines, with early losses in Indian Wells and Miami. Interestingly enough, he has mainly lost to big names on the tour this year, with the exception of Alex Bolt and Alex de Minaur in the Australian Open series.

So far in Marrakech, his performance has been rather decent although, he is yet to face a formidable opponent. In the first round, he defeated Jozef Kovalik and then, moved past Guido Andreozzi in the second round.

Simon v Daniel Predictions & Tips

Both the players are heading into this fixture on the back of an underwhelming performance on the ATP Tour. Nonetheless, Simon will be expected to win this match, mainly on account of his superior winning experience. Daniel may trouble him a bit but the Frenchman should be able to go the distance here.

Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 17/20 (Unibet)
