Roberto Bautista Agut v John Millman Head to Head

Before this Monte-Carlo Masters meeting, five matches have been played between these two players with the Spaniard holding a 4-1 advantage over Millman. Millman’s only win came a decade ago in a Futures event but since then, they have met in Chennai 2016, Beijing 2016, French Open 2017 and the Australian Open earlier this year and Bautista Agut has registered wins in each one of them.

If it was to hold any comfort for Millman, in all but one of those matches, he has won at least one set having also pushed his opponent to a five-setter at the Australian Open earlier this year.

Good Run in 2019 for Bautista Agut

The Spaniard will hope he can kick-start his campaign on clay in the manner he did earlier in the year. The season started in Doha for him and he went on to win the title at that competition with wins over Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic and Tomas Berdych in successive matches.

The 2019 Australian Open saw him make it as far as the quarter-final which again included wins over Andy Murray, Karen Khachanov and Marin Cilic, not to mention his opponent in this match, Millman as well. And then, after a couple of underwhelming competition results, he managed a quarter-final spot at the Miami Masters where he defeated Djokovic yet again – this time after being a set down.

Last season, Bautista Agut had a win-loss record of 11-6 on clay including a final at Gstaad that he lost. He would hope for a win here given he has enough form and experience against a player who hasn’t beaten him in four previous occasions.

Millman Hoping for a Turnaround

In the 13 main draw matches that the Aussie has played at the top level, he has won just six and lost seven. His best result came at the Acapulco Open and Sydney International where he made it to the last-eight stage before losing to John Isner, but other than that, he has had a year to forget so far.

A second round exit at the Australian Open to Bautista Agut was followed by losses in openers at New York Open and Delray Beach, and then again at both the previous Masters competitions at Indian Wells and Miami. A turnaround from that kind of form against a player in top-notch confidence seems improbable.

Bautista Agut v Millman Predictions & Tips

Very unsurprisingly, Bautista Agut is 1/5 to win this one, which isn’t worth a punt. Better to look at the games market in that case, where over 20.5 games can be expected out of this one thanks to the fighting spirit that the Aussie has shown each time they have played.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 9/10 (Unibet)
